FISHING THROUGH JANUARY 19th

HEATHER JOHNSON CUMPLEAÑOS GROUP 59 RELEASES

T.C. & Mary Brook Ewing, Heather Johnson, Mary Amelia Downs, Hayley Johnson, Nick Maxwell and Bryant Reckling.

January 8th and 9th we welcomed the above group (including el jefe, Craig Johnson) for Heather Johnson's Birthday bash. Fishing on both ALLURE and ALLURE II we had to run wide to find 'em though got into them pretty good both days with 59 sails released in their 2 days of fishing as well as 2 big mahi's for the table. The seas were a bit sporty though that didn't deter this hardcore group, fishing and partying like true pro's.... they had a ball out there both on the Pacific and back at the Oasis we are looking forward to their next trip back here!

LUCY FISHER / CHRIS CARTER GROUP 24 RELEASES

David Myerson, Steve Fisher, Chris Carter, Lucy Fisher and Ron Furby

January 10th and 11th we welcomed back Lucy Fisher this time introducing the rest of the above group for their first Guatemalan experience. First day out we overshot the fish a bit though had some late in the day activity and released 8 from 15 bites. Apart from Lucy it was first time billfish releases for the rest of the crew so the next day we had a good, fun sailfish school session going. They all managed to hook their own fish from some great teaser bites with 16 from 23 on the sails and 3 nice big bull mahi's boated. The long runs meant plenty of time to enjoy those cocktails on the ride home.....
Lucy with dad Steve.
Chris with his first sail.

And 3 big bull mahi's in the 25lb-30lb class.

                                         BOBBY RICHTER GROUP 68 RELEASES

Bobby Richter, Jonathan Meyer, James Preis and Nicholas Scherb on their first quad.

January 12th through the 15th it was great to see Bobby and James both from Port Aransas back here,  bringing with them first timers to Guatemala, Jonathan Myers from San Antonio and Nicholas Scherb from Ft Lauderdale. We had good fishing the first day out with 19 from 29 releases and it got better the second, by the afternoon we had released 27 from 42 bites on the conventional tackle and decided to try the fly. We raised another 9 fish on the teasers bringing it up to 57 sails raised for the day and we got 4 of those to bite the fly, it was a baptism of fire for Jonathan and Nicholas releasing none on the wand though they at least had it figured by the time we were back on the water the next day...
And they missed very few on the fly from there on in!
Big sail for Jonathan...
And a beauty for Nick!
Late in the third day we raised a wad of them behind the boat, the boat was knocked out of gear and James cast and hooked one on the fly. With another 5+ fish back there Bobby grabbed the other fly rod and laid out a great cast under James', the resulting bite from the second fish was incredible coming from the deep at speed. Nick hooked up on the conventional tackle and with still several fish back there Jonathan cast the spinning rod into the melee getting an instantaneous bite. A solid quad with two on the fly, one on the spinning rod and one on conventional! They split us going with one going west and the others east, it took some time though we picked them off releasing them all and getting both flies back, awesome way to finish the day!
And their second quad of the trip, with 2 on the fly...
A great time as always with Bobby and James and an awesome introduction to Guatemala for Nick and Jonathan releasing 68 sails and a good mahi for Nick supplying the rest of us with lunch for a couple of days....We're looking forward to seeing you guys back down here soon!!

CASEY McDERMAND GROUP 16 RELEASES.

Casey McDermand, Andrew Taylor, Trent Marino and Brandon Williams
January 17th-18th we had a large time with the above group, Casey and Trent introducing Guate to Andrew and Brandon. A little slow considering the way the bite had been though still good fishing up the west side of the pocket and the guys returned the great averages of 6 from 7 bites! Second day out we went out wide to the west and got into some fish found by one of the other boats off the edge later in the afternoon.
Blue water, lots of bait and fish pushing in
The fish were acting funky for the other boats out there and us too!! Coming in hot though some weird bites and tough to keep them hooked....we ended up with 18 bites releasing 10 of them, it was a busy, fun afternoon and good to see a large body of fish coming in with the current from the west. Good times with this crew and we're planning their return trip.

ESCUELA LA ESPERNAZA, EDUACTION FOR THE CHILDREN FOUNDATION

Stan and Claire Odland with Marianne Cooper Lee.
January 19th we fished the donated/auctioned trip with Stan and Claire Odland and Willis and Marianne Cooper Lee supporting the Education for the Children Foundation and the school La Esperanza in Jocotenango. A great cause to a school helping an impoverished area just outside of Antigua. Leaving the dock late and returning early we got the above group into some fish in the bottom western corner of the pocket releasing 4 from 5 bites, first sailfish releases for Claire, Stan and Willis, so congrats to them. Beautiful day out there topped off with a night at the Oasis, a good trip for them supporting a great Foundation!!

All in all the fishing this January has been excellent, the boats that went out wide chasing the bite yesterday the 19th had good action on both the sails and plenty of yellow fin tunas as well. We're looking forward to getting back out there on Thursday!! Right now we have February 24th to 26th open so get in touch and secure them to get into what is shaping up to be a very good season down here in Guatemala!!

RED HOT BITE FOR THE NEW YEAR....THROUGH JAN 4th '15

HOT START TO 2015!!

William and Teresa LaFuze with Donelle and Hill Dishman
Jan 3rd and 4th we fished with the above crew and the fishing was pretty much off the wall. On Saturday the 3rd a steady morning bite turned into a hot bite and by just after 2.00pm we had released 48 sails!! With the action just 18NM off the break wall things were looking good, it slowed down a little in the afternoon though and by days end and lines out at 4.00pm we'd released 58 sailfish from 80 bites and raised around 90.
Doubles, triples and general cockpit chaos
Flat seas and an awesome bite!!
Jan 4th slowed down some though it was still very steady right through the day with 40 releases from 53 bites. Some excellent averages from them with a 2 day total then of 98 sailfish releases and a couple of nice bull mahi's, what a great bite!!

JAN 2ND ON THE FLY....
Big sail on the fly.
Jan 2nd we had a fun day out there with Hill Dishman on the fly, the bite was good and they were hot on the fly with a few multiples coming in and a couple of double headers released. Only one tippet popped today and we recovered all the rest of the flies with 14 releases from 23 bites and 41 sails in the spread

LOW & BAILEY GROUP 61 RELEASES!
John and Robert Low with Terry Bailey and son's Coby and Colton
Dec 31st and Jan 1st we hosted the Low and Bailey father and son teams over the New Year period. John and Robert Low were last down here for Spring Break 2 years ago and had released 45 in two days of fishing so the pressure was on to beat that. We pretty much landed on the fish our first morning out with a cover up of over 7 hot sails behind the boat, incredible start!! Twice we had 5 hooked though a couple dropped off both times in that first frenzy. The rest of the day was steady with doubles, and triple headers, raising 61 sails we released 36 from 53 bites. Jan 1st was a little tough after a large New Years eve. Though the fishing seemed slow in comparison it was actually pretty bloody good with 25 sails released from 32 bites and a 2 day total of 61 releases. Now we have a new goal for their next trip down....

HILL on the FLY Dec 31st and Jan 1st

Cast!!
Allure got in on the same bite on the Dec 31st and Hill Dishman was sticking them pretty good today!! They saw the same, raising multiples and some perfect hot teaser fish to tease in and cast the fly to. An awesome end to the year for Hill releasing 20 sailfish on the fly from 27 bites!! A helluva day to remember....Jan 1st the hangover didn't help with 4 from 10 bites, still a great 2 day total of 24 on the fly!

FAGG / BREAUX GROUP DEC 30th

Bailey, Larry Fagg, Jeanne and Brent Breaux on a triple header
Dec 30th we welcomed back Guatemalan regular Larry Fagg, this time with his daughter Jeanne, son in law Brent and granddaughter Bailey. The group along with Larry's wife Linda spent a couple of nights in Antigua before spending the last 2 nights on the Coast at the OASIS and one day of fishing. A reasonable bite had been found off-shore to the east the previous day though we plugged away at the bottom of the pocket and had a great day in there releasing 13 from 20 bites. Great to see the Breaux family all get their first billfish releases!!
Bailey with her first sail.

DECEMBER 29th ON THE FLY

Drake Dishman.
December 29th we went out the east side looking for a new bite from the previous days out to the west. We found some fish inshore and then again in the deep water off the edge later in the afternoon for a good day on the water with 19 sails raised and 6 releases from 10 bites on the long wand. Good stuff!!

BEAN / KLEIN GROUP DECEMBER 27th-28th

Brad, Graham and Dillon Klein with Chris Bean
Dec 27-28th it was good to see Chris Bean AKA Señor Frijole and Brad Klein back down here in Guatemala, and this time with Brad's sons Dillon and Graham. It was good to finally meet them! The fishing had been slow so we rolled the dice and headed way out west and it proved to be the right call. With Capt Klein on the helm while I was down below giving a briefing we raised a small blue that came up on everything though didn't eat anything. After a slow morning we got into some fish around midday and ended up raising 19 and releasing 13 from 18 bites, including a 3 of a Klein triple.....
Dillon, Brad and Graham showing how its done
The next day we were back out there though the clean blue water was getting pushed further to the west, it was steady all day with another 13 releases from 17 bites today. Also a couple of nice bull mahi's for the bin both days out.
Sail with the lights turned on.

BUCKLEY GROUP DECEMBER 13th-16th

60 in 3 days!
John Buckley and his college buddies came down with Uncle Hill for 3 days of fishing and crushed them good. The fishing was out wide though they found life galore out there with spinner dolphin and tunas, sailfish and marlin. In the 3 days of fishing the group released 60 sails boated tunas and mahis and also raised 5 blue marlin of which 3 ate the bait, though, unfortunately none of them stuck....still an awesome 3 days for the group!!
Cool shot!
And on the 13th Hill was out on the fly releasing a very respectable 8 from 11 bites.

All good in Guatemala!!

Amazingly we still have a couple of openings in February. As of above the fishing here has been consistently good to excellent, get in touch with us to get in on it as from here on in it is primo!! As of now we have Jan 19-21 available and in February 10-13 and 24-26 on ALLURE II. ALLURE also has availability.
